PTC Heated Steering Wheel

Heated steering wheel is a device to provide convenience to drivers. That is, it is mounted on the heating system to heat a handle rapidly during cold season so that a driver won't feel coldness.

This heater has a unique feature of self-hysteresis that suppresses temperature increase by increasing resistance rapidly when the temperature reaches a pre-determined point. This allows drivers to set their desired temperature without any separate temperature controller or sensor. It is small and light so that it can be easily mounted on a steering wheel. Its surface is easy to grab.

Mechanism of PTC Heater

Conductive polymer PTC (Positive Temperature Resistance) heater has a higher degree of resistance when the temperature rises. When it is powered, its temperature increases gradually. When it reaches a certain temperature, its resistance also rises rapidly. As a result, it can prevent the temperature from rising further. Hence, it allows drivers for controlling the temperature without any separate temperature controller. Furthermore, this can also be used as a self-regulating heating device.

- A positive temperature coefficient (PTC) refers to materials that experience an increase in electrical resistance when their temperature is raised. Conductive polymer material with PTC feature is adhered to the steering wheel and applied to the non-woven cloth.
- It is possible to maintain a certain temperature in the target temperature range without a separate temperature control unit.
- It is possible to maintain a certain temperature in the target temperature range without a separate temperature control unit.

Structure of PTC Heater

- It allows for maintaining an adequate temperature level without any temperature controller such as thermostat.
- At low temperatures, it heats rapidly as its resistance falls. At high temperatures, it prevents over-heating and excess current as its resistance rises.
- It has a very low consumption power due to PTC feature that has a prevention function. So, it can prevent over-heating.
- Its thickness is less than 0.3mm. It is very small and light. So, it can be easily mounted and handled.
